Wells Fargo Has Entered The Chat

Hey! Welcome to the Better Than Points Newsletter - the premier place for all things Credit Card Points News and Travel

No news is good news in the credit card and points space. But I come bearing good news this week!

Here are 3 headlines, 2 hacks, and 1 questioned answered this week…

3 Headlines

One.

Wells Fargo has entered the chat. They’re coming out with a new credit card (LINK)

I usually never pay attention when Wells Fargo announces a new card. But this one is different. It looks like they’re throwing their cowboy hat into the transferable partner ring. While the list of partners isn’t long (Avianca, British Airways, Air France, Aer Lingus & Choice) its nice to see more competition in the space.

Quickly looking at the card it comes with a $95 annual fee. 5x on hotels, 4x on airlines, 3x on travel and dining and 1x on everything else with a $50 annual statement credit for airfare purchases. Nothing groundbreaking but I’m sure as time goes on they’ll add more transfer partners along with better benefits.

Two.

U.S. Caps credit card late fees (LINK)

Suck it credit card companies! I’m probably not the only one that’s forgotten to pay a credit card and gotten hit with that $32 fee. While in most cases you can call and have the charge removed. In those cases that you can’t, those $32 could have gotten me three cabo bob’s burritos. We might see them getting capped at $8 in the near future if the bill passes.

Three.

United Unveils New Routes (LINK)

Get hype! United just announced some new routes including New York/Newark to Marrakesh, Morocco. Houston to Medellin, Colombia and a summer route from Chicago to Athens. (LINK) I like keeping track of new routes so I can start setting award availability alerts on seats.aero because you never know when a good deal is gonna pop up.

Bonus.

American Airlines 5k spring promo sale (LINK)

From now until March 15 American Airlines members are able to book one way flights starting at 5,000 miles. This includes United States, Mexico, Caribbean and Central America so if you have AA miles its worth a look.

2 Hacks

One.

If you have a trip coming up later this year and have a Chase card make sure to enroll in (THIS) targeted offer to earn an extra 10K Ultimate Reward points. Check out the (LINK) to read how it works.

Two.

If you’ve ever wondered how to get to a certain airport or airline routes, let me introduce you to FlightConnections. A free tool that’ll help you see the best flight routes. Its what I used to figure out how the heck I was going to get to Aitutaki.

1 Question From You

Every week I answer one question from the community. Reply to this email with yours because you’re probably not the only one that has it.

Question

This weeks question is asked by my mom, you the real mvp. She wants to know what’s the one card she should get.

She doesn’t want to get fancy with it and worry about a bunch of cards in her purse. She just wants one card that she can put all her purchases on and not have to worry about it. And for her I would suggest the Chase Sapphire Preferred. While it does come with a $95 annual fee its manageable and comes with credits to help offset that. It also has some great travel partners like Hyatt for hotels and Air Canada, Virgin and British in order to book each of the different airline alliances along with its own internal travel portal.
