🤙🏿 Welcome back to the Better Than Points Newsletter - the premier place for all things Credit Card Points News and Travel
My name’s Luis and I’m the one writing this (hit me up here!)
Well, hello! It’s been so long since I last saw you I almost forgot what you looked like.
Haven’t seen you since last year… sorry, the dad in me couldn’t resist. 🤣
Now that the dad joke is out of the way, I hope the new year is treating you well and off to a great start.
For me, it kicked off with a sleeping baby, a dog scared of fireworks, and overly enthusiastic firework loving neighbors. But hey, besides that, we’re rocking and rolling.
I normally don’t drink coffee, but today I did so let’s get going! 🏃🏿♂️➡️

A Message from Me
I ran a survey in last week's newsletter, I was surprised that many of you plan to apply for a new card this year. So before you do, I wanted to ask you to please you my links to apply for your next card.
Here’s why you should:
I’ll keep the content coming: Your support allows me to continue creating and sharing valuable tips and guides for free.
No extra cost to you: Applying through my links doesn’t cost you anything.
Support what you love: Every click and application helps keep this newsletter going.
or you can always use the link at the bottom of every email.

The Survey Says
With life only seeming to get faster, I just want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for opening this newsletter every week.
I don’t take the time I spend writing these lightly, y’all are essentially trading some of your time for knowledge, and I make it a weekly goal to deliver value.
I also want to say a big thank you to everyone who answered the survey. I greatly appreciate your feedback!
With that, I know I’m not the only one curious to see the results so here are some of the most interesting insights, which will help me make the newsletter even better this year.

More Guides & Alerts
I hear y’all loud and clear! More award alerts = more chances to book travel with points.
Don’t forget that if you refer just one person you unlock additional award flights each week in the flight of the week section.

More hacks, videos, and deals
I’ll be sure to add more how to videos that I find online and that I make.
With that said don’t forget that I made a great free course on how to book the best flight with points.
Just refer one person and I’ll send you the password to access it.
So many of you are planning trips to Europe this year so I’ll make sure to focus on sharing tips and deals to help y’all out.
But don’t worry I’ve got everyone else covered too, no matter where in the world you’re planning to go. 😏
If you missed out on taking the survey, don’t worry, I’ll have more opportunities in the future to hear from you about what kind of videos you’d like to see.
In the meantime, if you already have ideas, feel free to reply to this email and let me know.
Lufthansa Miles & More January 2025 Discounts (LINK)
Every month, the Miles & More rewards program runs a Mileage Bargains discount, and this month’s deal features roundtrip flights from the U.S. to Europe starting at just 55K miles.
There are 436 offers from the U.S. to various European destinations, including 97 business class deals out of Chicago (ORD) and Washington D.C. (IAD) on SWISS.

A bunch of Swiss routs for 55k Miles RT
You’ll need to book by January 31, 2025, for travel between April 15 and May 31, 2025.
Unfortunately, I’ve got some bad news.
If you’re not familiar with the Miles & More program, it’s probably because none of the major card brands currently transfer points to them.
But if you’re looking to take advantage of these deals, here are a few options.
Sign up for the co-branded Barclays Miles & More card, (not an affiliate link) which gets you almost enough points for a roundtrip flight.
Join the Prestige Asmallworld membership, which includes 250,000 miles but with a hefty price tag of €5,490. 😬
Buy 100,000 Miles through the Miles & More Bundles & Go package, which costs $1,880.
While these aren’t the most amazing options, you’d still come out ahead compared to paying full price for a roundtrip ticket.
This could be a good choice for anyone who doesn’t already have miles but was planning to pay for tickets out of pocket.
Frontier Sale (LINK)
While flying Frontier wouldn’t be my first choice, hear me out.
They’re currently running two sales.
The first is 100% off base fares for travel through May 21, 2025.
But the more interesting one?
You can book one way international tickets for just 100 miles.
I had to double check this, and while you do have to pay at least $49 plus 100 miles, it’s still a heck of a deal for a nonstop flight to Mexico.
It’s an especially great option if you’re a parent traveling with a bunch of kids.

Denver to Cancun one way for 100 miles and $49
But Luis, I don’t have Frontier miles! Don’t worry you can buy them.
Frontier sells miles for as little as $25 for 1,000 miles so in theory, you could pay $425 ($400 in taxes and fees, plus $25 for the miles) and snag roundtrip tickets to the Caribbean for a family vacation.
I mean… you really can’t beat that price.

🤓 Hacks
It’s that time of year and there’s no better opportunity to hit a new credit card intro bonus. While credit card fees for paying taxes range from 1.75% to 1.85%, it can still make sense if using your card helps you hit an intro bonus. Plus, you can overpay your taxes and get refunded later (though it might take a bit).
When transferring points, try to avoid doing it in the middle of the night. That’s when airlines and hotel partners often run maintenance, which can cause transfers to take longer than usual. Check out this cool breakdown of how point transfers actually work.

🧑🏿💻 Question From You
Every week I answer one question from the community. Reply to this email with yours because you’re probably not the only one that has it.
Question
This one is less of a question and more of a discussion I had with one of the newsletter subscribers.
We were talking about applying for cards and how long to wait between applications.
Depending on your credit score and your ability to hit the intro bonuses without stretching yourself, you can comfortably apply for two cards every 91 days. Since the first card pulls your credit score, the second one shouldn’t impact your score as much if at all.
Kind of like when you apply for a car loan, and they pull your credit from multiple banks without it affecting your score too much.
That said, make sure you have a strategy going into it.
